For almost 20 years, the Shang Hai & Tokyo restaurant has been a staple in Rutland, Vermont. Sadly, they closed their doors in November 2019. We know this will be a loss to the community but wish the owners well on their new journey and welcome a new opportunity in Rutland.
The restaurant was in a prime real estate location right on North Main Street or Route 7. Their space is now for lease and is approximately 2,000 square feet facing the road. It is on the end of an “L” shaped building, so it has 3 walls of windows. A pylon sign sits close to the road to advertise the businesses in the building. Gables above the entrances make it easy for signs to welcome patrons to the space. Utilities are separately metered. Snow removal and landscaping, trash and recycling removal, and other property related maintenance are a part of the Common Area Maintenance charges. The space has a wide open seating area, a sizeable kitchen, 2 bathrooms and main entry vestibule.
Some renovation has already taken place to prepare it for the next tenant. The floors were stripped and bathrooms gutted so that new fixtures can be installed. The hood vent will be cleaned and a fresh coat of paint added to the walls.
The building is in the Gateway Business District – North Main Street in the Rutland, Vermont. Here are some of the permitted uses for the commercial space:

We are happy to show the commercial space to any who are interested. It would be great for a new restaurant to take over. It could also be fit up to accommodate offices like its neighboring spaces.
